In and Around Cleveland
I recently moved here from Pittsburgh a few years ago and have come to enjoy the sites about town.
I live east of Cleveland in a small town called Fairport Harbor, pop. 3000, which is located right on Lake Erie.

The original lighthouse in Fairport
Built in 1871 after the first one was razed, it served the lake until 1925. |

The lake in fouler weather...
Even in bad weather, I can stand and watch the lake and seeing it's rolling surf, puts a spell on you. It can relax you like nothing else can.

The lake when it's more forboding...
Unless you have five layers of coats on, you don't stand too long looking out over the lake. The only spell it will cast is the one telling you how fricking cold it is, and you must be an idiot for standing here so long. The winds in winter constantly blow off the lake so chill factors can be quite low, -F |
You've heard of sand dunes...well, these are ice dunes
But you can't walk on these dunes or they may find your body in spring if you dare try. If it's a hard winter it's pretty safe but you've got to remember, that the icy lake waters are just beneath the ice so a weak or thin spot could be hidden by snow on top of the ice. The dunes form at the beach due to surf action and slowly grow outward onto the lake. If you're on top of the ice, you can hear the waves and water under you. It's a rather eerie sensation.
